Diaphragm pump features

Dry running

Diaphragm pumps can run dry for extended periods without damaging the pump’s moving parts. Even when running dry, the pump will not overheat.

  1. During dry running, the pump will increase speed and consume larger amounts of air. 2. Dry running can negatively affect the lifespan of PTFE diaphragms.

Solids handling

Due to their unique design, the pumps can easily handle slurries as well as larger solid particles, such as balls, stones, etc.

  1. Permissible particle size varies from pump to pump and is determined by the ball valve dimensions. 2. Abrasive slurries can be pumped, but it must be ensured that the wetted materials are wear-resistant and resistant to abrasion.

Variable flow rates and discharge pressure

By adjusting either the air regulator or a liquid discharge valve, the pump can be operated from 0 liters per minute up to full capacity.
Liquid discharge pressure can be adjusted from below 1 bar up to 8.4 bar on certain larger pumps.

Dead Head

A diaphragm pump can run against a partially or fully closed liquid discharge valve (“Dead Head”) without damage or wear to the pump. The discharge line can therefore be closed completely and repeatedly without issues. The pump will not consume power, increase in temperature, or be damaged – it simply stops.
  1. Discharge pressure cannot exceed air pressure, so there is no need for overpressure protection.

Self-priming

Diaphragm pumps can run dry while generating a relatively high vacuum, making the pump self-priming.
  1. No special mechanisms, extra equipment, or special start-up procedures are required to prime the pump.
  2. The pumps can operate both wet and dry and can self-prime repeatedly without damage.

Safety when pumping flammable materials

Diaphragm pumps are powered by compressed air and have no electrical connections. They cannot overheat and are naturally cooled by the air supply during operation. When correctly grounded, they are considered safe for pumping flammable liquids or for use in explosive environments.

Made in Japan

All IWAKI AIR pumps are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Japan. Each pump is tightened, adjusted, and tested before delivery to ensure correct performance and optimal leak-free operation.

The Looped C® Spool

The new Looped C® spool provides improved switching reliability and longer component life. The spool features fully replaceable seal rings and a new lightweight shaft. The sleeve has been redesigned for increased durability and improved surface finish. Both spool and sleeve are accessible from the outside and are completely lubrication-free.

The Air EcoRing

When installed, it can reduce actual air consumption by up to 25% without reducing liquid flow (compared to an older equivalent pump model; average 16%).

Threaded Flange Manifolds

For type 400, 500, and 800 standard metal pumps, the manifolds have been upgraded to the newly developed “threaded flange manifolds.” This provides customers with a wider selection of both flange and thread connections.
